We traveled down to New York City this past weekend to meet up with our friend from Junk Food to kick off the Taste Makers Ice Cream Truck Tour. We repurposed a Mister Softee truck for the weekend as means of distributing our frosty treats, both literally and figuratively, as we of course were handing out free ice cream too!
The weather threatened to ruin our festivities, but largely held off as hundreds of people lined up each day to get their hands on these limited edition goods. Junk Food really went above and beyond in bringing our often shiny brand into their vintage world. It’s a bit funny that faux-vintage is a whole genre of fashion, who would’ve thought?
The highlight of the stop was likely our Daily Specials. Each day had a specially “flavored” design specific to New York. These unique items came in humorously oversized ice cream packaging (à la The Who Sell Out) and were made in small batches.
Saturday’s design was a play on the New York Knicks logo. It was stuffed in a gigantic ice cream pint container and limited to only 150 pieces.
For Sunday we had a unique tribute to Lady Liberty. This one came in an enormous and fun push-pop package. It was also limited to a small 150 piece run.
MTV stopped by!
Our sharp-looking pal from Junk Food, Demetrius!
The real standout of the weekend though was Stephen, the 10-year-old ice cream-slinging boy wonder. Standing at 4′ 5″, this New York native held down the ice cream service for the whole weekend. He handed out hundreds of delicious ice cream cones for the entirety of two days! Us twenty-somethings were envious of his work ethic, while the 10-year-old girls passing by were envious of his ice cream hookup. He wasn’t oblivious to this admiration either!
